Hi! I really loved your release ‘Mr. Super Fine’ and find it absolutely brilliant. If someone hasn’t had the chance to listen to it yet, how would you best describe the track?
Thank you so much! I would describe ‘Mr. Super Fine’ as a fun loving, bubbly tune. It’s quite upbeat and bright!
Where was it recorded?
“Mr. Super Fine” was recorded in Vancouver at Wine Cellar recording studio with the marvelous Ryan Stewart!
Do you have plans to include it in a bigger release, like an EP or album?
Yes! “Mr. Super Fine” was the first single to be released for my debut EP, “Yours Truly”, which will arrive next year. Watch for new singles leading into it!
I’m interested in how you began your musical journey. Did you always know that this was your true passion?
I grew up playing piano, so my parents put me in piano lessons at an early age. I loved listening to music, so eventually wanted to not only play my favourite songs on the piano, but sing them as well. I would search up my favourite songs and find the lyrics and piano chords to learn them. I still have my childhood iPad which I would prop up on the sheet music shelf on the piano right in front of me and record myself – looking back at these videos now is pretty precious and hilarious with my over exaggerated facial expressions I would do singing.
I attended Taylor Swift’s 1989 concert with my mom and was in awe of seeing her live. She is such an inspiration to so many people and the way she can work the stage is insane. I walked out of that concert knowing my dream would be to someday be like her and be such a positive influence to people and the younger generation.
Throughout my younger years I was in typical vocal lessons where I would learn my favourite songs, breathing techniques, etc. But at 12-ish years old, I wanted to take things up a level, so my parents put me in classical voice lessons with an incredible vocal coach. I got coached by Lynne Leydier for 4 years and competed in the Kiwanis Music Festival multiple years in a row for classical voice as well as musical theatre, and I was fortunate enough to represent Penticton a couple times in provincials.
Since then, my love for music keeps growing and I am very grateful for such supportive parents who encourage me every step of the way and are there to support me every way they can.
Your music blends various styles and sounds in a captivating manner. If given the opportunity, who would be your ideal collaborator and what is the reason behind your choice?
I would love to work with Tate McRae. I love her songs and her voice is so unique. She is also from Toronto, Canada which I think is awesome!
What has been your favourite musical experience so far?
I was the lead singer for a Country House band this summer at The Lakeside Resort in Penticton. We played there every Sunday night and it was such a fun time! I was so grateful to be playing with seasoned professionals who were each amazing players. It was great to be part of a band and the feeling of being on stage supporting each other and having the energy bounce off of one another.
My favourite show from playing every Sunday was August long weekend. It was packed! And the place was full of people dancing and singing along. The vibe was impeccable.
Where are you located? Can you describe how the local music scene has influenced your sound in any way?
I am located in Penticton, BC. It is a small Canadian town, but very supportive. I have been given the opportunity to play at many local performance venues which has been great! The summers here are very busy as it’s a tourist town, so it works out great playing multiple shows per week here as I meet so many great people!
If you had the opportunity to perform at any venue worldwide, which one would you choose and why?
I would probably choose BC Place in Vancouver – It’s a stadium, so it’s HUGE. If I could eventually open for someone there it would be incredible as Vancouver has been my second home, and it’s the place I have recorded all my music. It would be so crazy to perform at such a massive venue in a place I call my second home.
What was the first album you remember owning?
The Dixie Chicks, now known as The Chicks. I had an old CD player where I would have their album on repeat in my room. They are such a talented group. I still listen to them today.
Finally, do you have anything to share about upcoming gigs? Also, what are your plans for 2024?
I am so excited to open up for the Good Lovelies October 26th at The Creekside Theatre in Lake Country, BC!! It’s such an amazing opportunity and I’m quite stoked!
My plans for 2024 are to release my debut EP “Yours Truly” as well as perform LOTS and hopefully record some new music!
