Hey, super nice to have the chance to chat with you. What have you been up to over the past year in this big old mess?
Nice to chat with you too! It really has been a mess, hasn’t it?
I’ve spent most of my time working hard at writing music, as well as finally finishing my design degree so I can do absolutely nothing with it. I’m finally releasing music, though, which is something I’ve dreamt about for a really long time.
I’m very interested in how you started your adventure with music, and did you know from the beginning that this is what you wanted to do?
I’ve definitely had a love for music since I can remember. I’ve been a dancer since I was around three years old, and got trained in piano, guitar and singing. I even messed around with a band in high school, which never got further than the rehearsal studio, but we had a great time. It’s always been something that I’ve really enjoyed, but I held a lot of self-doubt until quite recently, so I feel like I’ve only just started properly pursuing it.
Congrats on your new release, ‘Rollercoasters’. Can you give us some insight into it?
Thank you! I wrote Rollercoasters for a guy I had a crush on. We were in that frustrating part of the talking stage where neither person knows what’s going on but you’re too scared to ask. It’s beautiful but agonising all at the same time. The suspense was killing me, so I wrote him a song as my way of asking him what was happening. Cheesy, right? But it worked, and we’ve been together a little over a year now. It’s such a sweet little love story and I’ll happily tell it a thousand times.
What are you doing to ensure you continue to grow and develop as an artist?
I’m honestly just writing music whenever I can. I want to do everything I can to improve myself as an artist. I’m also very dedicated to posting on social media, as it’s been something I found a passion in since the start of the pandemic. So, I find it really fun to promote my music that way.
I think gigs have been a really big way that I’ve continued to grow and develop myself, too. From rehearsals, to organising with venues and artists to actually being there on stage. It’s a whole process and I love it!
What should we expect from your next releases in terms of style and sound? How different are they going to be compared to your previous works?
I’m always trying out new things. I love film so I’m really keen to see where I can take my future music videos and what stories I can tell with them. I’m really looking forward to creating new projects next year and already have some cool stuff in the works! I’m still trying out new styles, emotions and themes, so strap in for that.
Where are you based? Can you tell us how the music scene there has inspired your sound at all?
I’m based in Melbourne, Australia. It’s a super gorgeous city with a really vibrant music community. Everyone is really supportive of each other and I’ve met so many really cool artists here.
If you could perform at any venue in the world, where would it be and why?
There are honestly so many. Madison Square Garden would be an incredible one. Or even Coachella. Or maybe even the moon. You’ve gotta dream big.
Can we expect a new EP or an album from you in the near future?
My debut EP dropped on the 29th of September, and I’m already writing for the next album. I’m so excited for the future and I can’t wait to share more music with the world. I think this next one is going to be REALLY cool, and I know I’ll probably say that every time!
Finally, have you got anything to share regarding upcoming gigs, and what have you got planned for the rest of 2023?
I’m planning to just gig as much as possible. I was super nervous and shaky for my first performance, at The Hawthorn Hotel, so I want to push myself to get better. There have been a lot of rehearsals, planning and more rehearsals, and I’m already feeling a lot more confident in myself as an artist. My next gig is on the 29th of November, and I’m so excited!
