The Manchester-based singer-songwriter explores themes of friendship and the awkward transition into young adulthood on the track. The fresh indie tune combines a hazy soundscape with Ozard’s emotionally charged lyricism.
A sunny, crisp guitar melody perfectly complements the artist’s soft, sonorous vocals. The accompanying music video features a nostalgic celebration of girlhood.
The track is a promising single, with relatable themes for Ozard’s target audience. The production quality is crisp, with producer Ben Matravers capturing an indie feel that will appeal to genre fans.
Speaking about the single, Abbie said: “The track comments on how confusing, difficult, and chaotic life can be in your twenties, with pressure coming from every direction. There’s an expectation for you to have your life figured out when you still feel 18. Essentially, you want to have fun, but you need to be focused on your career, aspirations, and everything in between.”
She continued: “Unlike before, I now find letting loose and having fun really difficult as I have an overriding sense of guilt when I do. Maybe that’s because I don’t feel like I fully have my ‘life together,’ so I don’t want to waste time. But there are moments with friends that I just think fuck it. I find these moments so valuable, and that’s what gets me through everything.”
The tune follows the zodiac-themed EP Water Based Lullabies, released last year. The evolution of her sound as she grows as a musician is evident. A previous single, ‘Ford (drive)’, was featured on BBC introducing earlier this year.
The singer did her first headline tour in December 2022 and will support Briston Maroney on an upcoming winter tour in the UK and Europe. The tour opens on Halloween in Brighton and concludes in Berlin on the 15th of November.
With Ozard’s chosen genre of music becoming increasingly saturated, it will be interesting to see how the singer navigates future releases.
