Fresh from her UK tour, Aziya appears uninterested in settling down. The emerging alternative dynamo has played the guitar since she was ten years old, honing her musical skills to become a talented singer, songwriter, producer, and multi-instrumentalist. In 2021, she released her debut EP ‘We Speak of Tides’ and went on to support artists like Nova Twins and The Vaccines. Earlier this year, she dropped her vibrant single ‘atomic’. In her own words, “I create songs that I imagine Debbie Harry singing, Prince co-producing, and John Bonham drumming on.”

‘chain’ begins with up-tempo drums, gradually taking on a darker tone with shadowy thrumming. The chorus introduces shoegaze-inspired instrumentation, enveloping listeners in layers of swirling guitar complemented by Aziya’s compelling vocals and unrestrained yelps. In the bridge, she showcases her vocal power, urging her audience to “embrace the chain,” challenging the notion of restriction. Aziya offers a fresh perspective.

The song represents the sense of community she has built as an artist. “Just like a chain consists of individual pieces linked together, I wanted to write a song that emphasizes to my fans that they are a part of my world,” she explains. “I hope it reminds people that it doesn’t matter what you look like or where you come from. When you attend my shows or listen to ‘chain’, you are part of something and you are accepted.”

Aziya has burst onto the music scene with an infectiously vibrant presence. From filming music videos with her friends in London to sharing her “sad boy songs” on TikTok, her creative realm is inclusive and now open to the world. With her second project on the horizon, Aziya is a versatile force to keep an eye on.
