New earworm single ‘I Get Sad So Easily’ brings us a cheat code for feeling on top of the world ahead of their forthcoming album ‘We Are Here to Make You Feel’. The new single arrives after smashing previous tracks, ‘Hey Hey Hey’ and ‘We Are Here to Make You Feel’ which earned support from the likes of Clash, The Line of Best Fit, Dork and BBC Radio 6 Music. On the band’s magic, Radio 1’s Arielle Free stated that Sparkling “reminds me of The 1975… but if they were to have a baby with the Proclaimers. You would get these guys, trust me.”
The new single, sees synths bend and contort as if toying with their reflection in a hall of mirrors, where guitars are pushed to distorted extremities, making ‘I Get so Sad Easily’ messy and addictive as it hits you like a rush of blood to the head. On the single, the trio share that “This song is about missing a person and realising you didn’t tell them enough how you feel and what they mean to you. We wanted to get this feeling out in the most direct and raw way, lyrically and musically.” From the lyrics of the track leaning into the emotional honesty that we lose past the point of childhood, ‘and every word that I speak, my desires are speaking for me.’ The single continues to dive into those emotions from longing for someone without self-consciousness ‘I get sad when you’re not right here with me, do you know what you mean to me?’. And even though these emotions are expressed on this single, Sparkling uses a key ingredient that is so hard to find in pop music these days: fun.
The key to Sparkling’s identity is their multi-linguality and experience of living and playing in different European countries as their upcoming album itself was recorded across several locations from Germany, Belgium, France and England. In the making of ‘We Are Here to Make You Feel’ Sparkling avoided conventional spaces where possible and the trio assembled makeshift spaces in locations from an old train station in a Belgian village to an abandoned school in the middle to France.
The band share that building on their experience touring with Metronomy, their upcoming album is a glimmering widescreen world where emotions are large with rousing choruses, twinkling synth toplines and an incessant desire to keep things propelling forward at pace. ‘We Are Here to Make You Feel’ is a breathless expansion of the foundations Sparkling laid by their 2019 debut ‘I Want to See Everything’. The band continue that the upcoming album is about the importance of expressing your emotions, “It’s about love in every kind of way. Love for your friends, lovers and family. It’s a reminder to tell your loved ones that you love them. On this record, we wanted to say that in the most honest and straightforward way possible.”
