Hey, super nice to have the chance to chat with you. What have you been up to over the past year?
A: Thanks for the interview! I’ve been very busy behind the scenes getting new music ready for release and playing festivals across Canada. Feels good to be getting some new content out there and finishing this record!
I’m very interested in how you started your adventure with music, and did you know from the beginning that this is what you wanted to do?
A: It wasn’t until the day I decided to hang up the skates that I knew I wanted to pursue a career as an artist/songwriter. Music was always there but constantly took a back seat to hockey. Once that shift happened, all of my energy went into this journey that has produced 6 records and a career I’m beyond grateful for.
Congrats on your new release, ‘The Country Kind’. Can you give us some insight into it?
A: “The Country Kind” was co-written with Dave Thomson and Tina Parole over Zoom a couple years ago. It only took us a few hours to write and was one of those sessions that just flowed. By the end we knew we had created something really special. Probably the most country sounding song I’ve ever written, I wanted to touch on the simple elements of what “country” is, while adding a more traditional sound. It’s an anthem celebrating the elements and roots of country music.
What are you doing to ensure you continue to grow and develop as an artist?
A: I make sure I honour the music fan inside of me. That authentic part that cries at a powerful song. At the same time continuing to work on my writing and bringing my fans music they enjoy and can relate to.
What should we expect from your next releases in terms of style and sound? How different are they going to be compared to your previous works?
A: This record is going to be a mix of modern and old styles of country music. I listen to both and appreciate both which shows in the music I make. Each record has its own energy so naturally take on their own style. I haven’t reinvented the wheel with this record, but it does lean a little more on the traditional roots. I just try to bring positive, relatable music to the country music listener with each song I release.
If you could perform at any venue in the world, where would it be and why?
A: Any venue with good hearted, music loving fans will do just fine!
Can we expect a new EP or an album from you in the near future?
A: Absolutely! Will be one of those two.☺
Finally, have you got anything to share regarding upcoming gigs, and what have you got planned for the rest of 2023?
A: We just got off the road from a summer of festivals which were amazing! So now the rest of the year is focusing on more writing and recording, as well as the release of single number 2, which we already have ready to go!
