Q: Hi! I really loved your release ‘Sink Not Swim’ and find it absolutely brilliant. If someone hasn’t had the chance to listen to it yet, how would you best describe the track?
A: “Sink Not Swim” is a soulful R&B song that delves into returning to a toxic relationship.
Q: Where was it recorded?
A: We each recorded our parts separately in our own cities, right from the comfort of our homes.
Q: Do you have plans to include it in a bigger release, like an EP or album?
A: Currently, we are working on more collaborations. Our latest project, “FUTTI” was released on November 3, 2023.
Q: I’m interested in how you began your musical journey. Did you always know that this was your true passion?
A: I began my musical journey at a young age with piano and singing lessons. I’ve always aspired to be a singer. Over time, despite trying various jobs, I always gravitated back to music. Creating music and honing my artistic voice is my purpose; there’s no other way for me to live.
Q: Your music blends various styles and sounds in a captivating manner. If given the opportunity, who would be your ideal collaborator and what is the reason behind your choice?
A: I admire artists who combine different styles to create something unique and impactful. Right now, my dream collaborators would be Labrinth, FKJ, and alt-J. Also, I’d love to work with Lana Del Rey because her energy is unmatched.
Q: What has been your favorite musical experience so far?
A: It’s tough to pick a favorite, as each experience is unique. But for me, releasing my debut single was a profoundly meaningful moment.
Q: Where are you located? Can you describe how the local music scene has influenced your sound in any way?
A: I’m based in Cape Town. Even though I’ve only been here for about a year and a half, the local music scene is incredible. Cape Town is brimming with talent, and I’ve been warmly welcomed and supported. Opportunities are abundant, and people are eager to help you succeed if you put yourself out there. Cape Town’s international diversity means that people from all over the world attend shows and discover new music at live gigs.
Q: If you had the opportunity to perform at any venue worldwide, which one would you choose and why?
A: Madison Square Garden, without a doubt. That place is simply magical.
Q: What was the first album you remember owning?
A: My house was filled with music, ranging from The Carpenters, Fleetwood Mac, Shirley Bassey, Frank Sinatra, Roberta Flack, to Nina Simone. I grew up listening to the classics. The first album I actually bought was an early Green Day album, which was quite a contrast to what I had been listening to before that.
Q: Finally, do you have anything to share about upcoming gigs? Also, what are your plans for 2024?
A: I perform regularly at The Blue Room in Cape Town and pop up at other venues. I have a show coming up at The Blue Room later this month. My plan for 2024 is to release a personal EP. I’ve only ever released singles, so I’m excited to share more of my own work.
