Hi! Congratulations on the release of ‘Full Circle Part 1’! The EP sounds fantastic. What inspired you to create it?
Thanks so much! I had a lot to say, a lot of things to deal with in my life and making music really allows me to do that. This EP is part 1 of a bigger project showing how I’ve gone ‘full circle’ from one place in my life to another.
What is your favorite track on the EP and why?
I think it has to be ‘Me Vs Mother Nature’. The song feels very raw to me and I love playing it live.
Where was it recorded?
The EP was recorded in stages! The drums and bass were recorded in a studio in Glasgow by Sam Macleod and everything else was recorded by me in my studio (my studio is an old office in a very haunted building but it gets the job done).
I’m interested in how you began your musical journey. Did you always know that this was your true passion?
I wanted to be a footballer growing up and had no clue I could sing! Once I started singing, it became my way of playing instruments and eventually writing songs. I originally used music to express being queer and come out. The first song I ever released at nineteen years old ‘Fur Coat Queen (2019)’ was my own coming out story. Music became the only way I could feel my feelings.
Your music blends various styles and sounds in a captivating manner. If given the opportunity, who would be your ideal collaborator and what is the reason behind your choice?
This answer changes a lot but I think it would be David Byrne from Talking Heads. He really owns this strangeness he has and I think we would write very weird and wonderful music together.
What has been your favorite musical experience so far?
There have been so many! Probably being nominated and performing at the YouthMusic Awards in London – that was pretty cool!
Where are you located? Can you describe how the local music scene has influenced your sound in any way?
– At the moment I’m based in Edinburgh, I’m originally from West Lothian, and play mainly in Glasgow. I think the Glasgow music scene is brilliant and has definitely allowed me to push myself out of my comfort zone/experiment more.
If you had the opportunity to perform at any venue worldwide, which one would you choose and why?
At the moment, it would probably be the chase center in San Francisco. I’ve got some ideas for that show!
What was the first album you remember owning?
The first album I think I ever owned was ‘Blood on the Tracks’ by Bob Dylan or ‘Hannah Montana Forever’. It was a wild time!
Finally, do you have anything to share about upcoming gigs? Also, what are your plans for 2024?
I will be playing some shows in California this December which is very exciting. 2024 will definitely have some interesting surprises which I can’t talk about just yet!
