Hi! “LOVE, DRUGS & MISERY” has been out for over a year now and has received a lot of acclaim. What inspired the thematic elements of love, addiction, and personal struggles in the album?
A: It’s sort of my play on “sex, drugs and rock n roll”. After that era comes love, drugs and misery. I feel like those themes are what I was seeing manifest in my personal relationships at the time we wrote the album. It seemed like a fitting title.
With the release of the deluxe edition of “LOVE, DRUGS & MISERY,” which includes 10 bonus tracks, can you tell us about the decision-making process behind these specific additions? How do they complement the narrative of the original album?
A: I don’t think the goal was to compliment the original. We just wanted to celebrate the album’s release so we threw everything we had onto the deluxe. Which I love because this way we got to release everything we had worked on. I guess in a way, it does compliment the original album in that some of the songs like “Devil In Disguise” were originally written for album 1, and “War Pigs” is another epic cover and other tracks are cool remakes.
The single “Unstoppable” is gaining traction on the rock radio charts. Can you share the backstory of this song and what it means for the band to collaborate with country rocker Cory Marks?
A: Cory was a great fit. The song has a very country swing to it so his outlaw vibe worked pretty naturally. And he was an absolute gem to work with so I hope we cross paths again! I was actually hanging with Cory on the set of the music video and explained that the lyrics were about my parents’ love story. It was a cool moment.
As a rising female-fronted rock group, what challenges have you faced in the music industry, and how does the band’s dynamic contribute to overcoming them?
A: we’re all friends from our teen years so any challenges we meet, we face them together. I remember playing bar gigs when it was very odd to see a woman fronting a rock band. Now I see more women represented in the rock world and I’m here for it!
The cover of Black Sabbath’s “War Pigs” is a bold choice for a deluxe album. What drew you to this particular song and how did you approach making it your own?
A: We always go big or go home with cover songs. The themes in the lyrics of War Pigs still hold true today unfortunately. Ozzy’s voice is so iconic and the song itself has proven timeless so you know we had to try it.
As you join forces with British rock staple BUSH and labelmates BAD WOLVES on the North American tour, how do you anticipate your music and performances will resonate with their fanbases?
A: It’s a diverse lineup for sure. Each has heavy elements delivered in their own way. We open the night with high energy to win people over (plus it’s just more fun that way). Bad Wolves takes the stage and gets heavy. They have a great presence while performing. Then we all sing along to Bush the rest of the night. I think it’s a great dynamic.
Your performances are known for their energy and power, particularly with Amanda’s captivating vocals. How do you prepare for a live tour, and what can your fans expect from your shows in Canada?
A: Get your singing voices ready cause we’re gonna ask you to sing with us! We’re still a garage band so we rehearse regularly when not on tour to keep our chops up. The live show is our favourite thing so I’m glad the fans feel that.
Sirius XM has named you as one of the “Ones To Watch” for 2023. How does this kind of recognition affect the band’s morale and your approach to music?
A: It’s pretty incredible to know that pros in the rock w
“Blow” went Top 10 at Active Rock Radio and earned a spot on the 2022 Mediabase Year End Chart. To what do you attribute the success of this single and how has it influenced the band’s direction?
A: Right place, right time. We knew we wrote a killer hook so that was step one. Then we got THEE Spencer Charnas to sing on it with us. That was a huge step two. Step 3 was management and the label supporting the track in a weird post pandemic market. I think people were starved for new music. It certainly helped the success of the song.
